Oh, Christmas Tree

The much anticipated Tree of Celebration (Oh, Tannenbaum!) found itself up and decorated this weekend. The boys were gracious enough to let Anna place the star on the tree as she has never had the opportunity in the whole two-and-a-half years she has been with us on earth. It was a rather solemn occasion. Everyone was patient and quiet while Annaliese solemnly placed the golden star at the top of our tree.

Once the inaugural task was finished we began to trim the tree in earnest. There were two ornaments that Sean and I placed on the tree together. This was unusual as Sean is usually at work when the tree goes up. These two ornaments are from our first Christmas together, a decade ago.

I have to admit it made me pause as I watched our little ones busily decorating the tree - clumping all the similar ornaments together at the base of the tree. Sean was hopelessly trying to coach them how to spread out the bright red balls so that there would be color all over the tree, instead of just at the bottom. Djeryd concentrated on arranging the Nativity sets and hanging miniature ornaments on the tiny tree that resides in the boys' room for the duration of the season. I wept to see the magnificence of God's blessings in my life, and the greatest of them all were milling around our living room smiling and humming Christmas carols.
